If you had to choose just three Hollywood legends to build a theatre show around, who would you choose? For Sirens of the Silver Screen, Beth Burrows selected Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. At last night’s post-show discussion at the Tabard Theatre, she explained why she did, how much fun she had researching each and to which she feels most connected.
A new adventure into old Hollywood in song and story… Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe – this sisterhood of stunning starlets lit up the silver screen for decades and kept tongues wagging with their scandalous off-screen antics. In Sirens of the Silver Screen, Beth Burrows takes on each famous woman, performing their most loved songs and shedding light on the shadowy secrets that stalked their careers.
For the post-show, we were also joined by director Mark Giesser, who met Burrows on a cruise ship (great story!). Other topics covered: the challenges of performing when an England World Cup match is screening in the pub below, Edinburgh and other future plans, modern sirens (do they exist?) and show sequels. Plus, if Beth could time-travel and relive one moment in each siren’s life, what high points would she choose?
