Citysong runs at London’s Soho Theatre 12 June-6 July 2019

I had a blast with the stage premiere of Chasing Bono. I’m delighted to return to Soho Theatre for another new Irish play, the 2017 Verity Bargate Award-winning Citysong.

Late-night taxis, teen discos, home nurses, Jewish launderettes, vigilantes, babies, immigrants, seagulls.

Citysong is a play, a poem and a chorus of voices showing three generations of a Dublin family on one day. It turns out one day holds the entire past.

Intimate and sweeping, joyous and ridiculous, it’s different things at different times, which makes sense seeing as it’s about change.

Winning Soho Theatre’s prestigious Verity Bargate Award in 2017, Citysong was described by the judging panel as an ‘epic’, ‘spellbinding’, ‘extraordinarily poetic’ play.

Playwright Dylan Coburn Gray is an Irish writer based in Dublin. His plays include Boys and Girls (Winner of the Fishamble Best New Writing Award). He is a collaborating writer with Malaprop Theatre, winners of the 2015 Spirit of Fringe Award for Love+.

The production, directed by Caitríona McLaughlin, has transferred to Soho Theatre direct from its premiere at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre. The cast are: Daryl McCormack (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), Amy Conroy, Jade Jordan, Blaithín MacGabhann, Clare McKenna and Dan Monaghan.

After the 2.30 matinee performance of Citysong on Saturday 22 June 2019, I’ll be joined by writer Dylan Coburn Gray and members of the company. Any questions? Join us!
