THAT MAN – a new musical about love, lust, loyalty and deceit in 1950s London featuring hit songs That Man, Liquid Lunch, A Night Like This and others made famous by Dutch singer Caro Emerald – is set to preview in two specially staged concert performances at London’s Hippodrome Casino on Tuesday 20 September 2016 with Jonny Labey (EastEnders) starring as That Man of the title, Rick.
THAT MAN has a book by Wendy Gill and is directed by award winning director Paul Boyd (Molly Wobbly) and musical direction by Iain Vince-Gatt. The staged concerts are produced by the same team that recently created the Tower of London’s sell-out Live at the Tower gala variety shows featuring a host of West End stars.
It’s 1957 and Chas puts his best friend Rick to the test when he suggests a wager, based upon winning the favours of Rosa, the singing star at London’s famous cabaret club, The Flamingo. (Note from Terri: how perfect to stage it in the Hippodrome?!) When the wager backfires, Rick faces a dilemma. His pride and his position among his peer group forces him to take a course of action in total conflict with his desires…
The cast is completed by Sabrina Aloueche (We Will Rock You), Christoper Howell (Wicked), Treyc Cohen (The Lion King), Rhiannon Chesterman (Mrs Henderson Presents), Stephanie Rojas (Love Me Tender) and Kate England (To Kill a Mockingbird). Choreography is by multi-award-nominated Anthony Whiteman.
This exclusive Q&A takes place immediately after the special 4pm matinee on Tuesday 20 September and will also be attended by a selection of industry guests. I’ll talk to members of THAT MAN ‘s creative team and cast about putting together this brand-new musical and where it goes from here.
